How do aged care fees work?
In Australia, residential aged care fees are regulated by the government and may be subsidised based on your income and assets. There are three main types of aged care fees in Australia:
- Basic daily care fee
This covers your daily living costs (such as meals, power, laundry, personal care) and is paid by all aged care home residents. Everyone can be asked to pay this fee, and if eligible, it will be 85% of the single person Age Pension. This fee is adjusted each March and September in line with changes to the Age Pension. - Means-tested care fee
You may be asked to pay this fee if your income and assets are over a certain amount. It is calculated by the Department of Human Services and annual and lifetime caps apply. - Accommodation fee
This covers your accommodation in the home and may be met in fill or in part by the government. It is only payable if your income and assets are over a certain amount and is assessed by the Department of Human Services.

- Ultimate Service Package
This fee covers a higher standard of accommodation in our home, as well as additional services.
The Georges Estate Service Package includes our signature companion care, superior quality toiletries, linen and pillows, on-demand entertainment, unlimited Wi-Fi streaming, food and dining extras as well as exclusive discounts on a range of lifestyle services. - Superior Service Package
Georges Estate also has a number of rooms that can take advantage of a higher standard of accommodation and services on our additional service package. The Superior Service Package includes a range of added benefits to enhance your comfort, lifestyle and health. - Respite Care
The cost of respite care can vary and will depend on the services you access and the funding you are eligible for. If you can afford to, you will be expected to contribute to the cost of respite care, how much you’ll pay depends on your income.
If you access residential respite in an aged care home, you’ll be charged a daily fee to cover the cost of your care. To find out more about this, visit the My Aged Care Website.
